Safe Homes, Independent Lives, Free of Charge

Rebuilding Together Long Island delivers free home safety repairs and accessibility modifications to income-qualified Long Island homeowners.

About Us

For seniors, veterans, and families across Long Island, staying safely at home is not a luxury, it is a right. Rebuilding Together Long Island, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that makes it possible, providing free home safety repairs and accessibility modifications to income-qualified homeowners who might otherwise have nowhere to turn. From a wheelchair ramp built for a terminally ill husband to safety upgrades that gave a recent amputee back her sense of security, the work done here changes lives in ways that go far beyond carpentry.

The team based at 208 NY-109 in Farmingdale brings genuine care to every home they enter. Clients consistently describe the staff as knowledgeable, thorough, and deeply invested in getting things right. The application process is designed to be straightforward, and the staff works hard to identify every safety need a homeowner may not have realized existed. That attention to detail is what separates this organization from a simple repair crew.

With a 4.6-star rating earned through real community impact, Rebuilding Together Long Island operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, ready to hear from homeowners who need help and volunteers or donors who want to give it.

What We Offer

Every service offered by Rebuilding Together Long Island is provided at no cost to qualifying homeowners, targeting the repairs and modifications that have the greatest impact on safety and independence.

Accessibility modifications are at work: ramps, grab bars, and handrails help residents move through their homes without fear of falling. Tub-to-step-in shower conversions remove one of the most common household hazards for older adults and people with disabilities. The team also handles minor carpentry and home safety repairs, basic plumbing and electrical work, and weatherproofing to stop drafts and water intrusion before they become bigger problems. Smoke and carbon monoxide detector installation rounds out a service list built entirely around keeping people safe where they live.

If you are an income-qualified Long Island homeowner who is a senior, a veteran, or a family in need, this organization exists specifically for you. Reach out during office hours to learn whether you qualify and to begin an application process that past clients describe as refreshingly simple.

"As a recent amputee this organization helped me so much, application process was easy! Bill and Barbara got me approved for so many things I didn’t realize were needed in my home for safety. Steve W and Steven A. Came into my house and built my a ramp allowing me freedom to get in and out that I did not have . Their crew repaired electrical, handrails and added grab bars to my bathroom. They widened doors and added smoke detectors they were clean and neat. I am so appreciative for their work , I wish I could give 10 stars"

"Not enough words to say how wonderful each person was that volunteers for this organization! My mother as an elderly, disabled widow of a veteran cannot afford to do many of the required repairs in her home that are needed to stay at home. This group came in and efficiently completed safety items from top to bottom. Grab bars, caulking, light switch, plumbing...you name it! So thankful, amazing individuals and organization!"
